I'm trying to make anew gauge cluster for my swinger and there's a part I can't figure out. On the back of the original dash/gauge cluster, there is a small plug in piece, with three tabs sticking out of it, anybody got a clue as to what it is? I'm using auto meter gauges in my new panel but I want to be able to plug in to factory harness. Ihave everything ready but I want to know if this piece has any signifigance.

Correct. A Bi-meatl set up is in there. As the 12 volts ome inand conect, the one meatl spring heats up and cools off to give an interment signal (?) for 5 volts to the gauges.

The lights on your Autometer gauges can be lit fine by this. I'd just work arond it myself.

the factory gauges operated on approx 6 volts.
The aftermarket gauge instructions will tell 12V input or 5V input.

I'm using my factory fuel level gauge so I need to install this piece inline with the 12v power to the gauge, correct?

just puitng the voltage, oil press, and coolant temp in cluster but want to keep the factory fuel gauge. I relocated it over to the space where the ammeter was originally and made apanel to cover the rest of the cluster,,minus the headlight and windshield wiper switches

your call, your car.
My personal opinion ...I wouldn't want just 1 gauge sinking the current taht can come out of a new or used mechanical regulator.
It'll be a fast gauge no doubt.

not fuel pressure,,fuel level, been running a 16 gallon cell for six years now and I'm finally going to be able to look at the dash and see how much fuel is there

ok so I dont know where the mis understanding came from that caused fuel pressure to be mentioned. When I said "It'll be a fast gauge " I meant a fast needle. My regulator supplys exactly 5 volts at 1.5 amps. Slower needle travel , especially when feeding 3 gauges, but more accurate end results.
Good luck whatever you choose.
