I was in the non automotive discussion mood, I dont know if anyone on here watches Deadliest Catch, but my wife and I have been watching for the 6 seasons it has been on.. We have been hooked ever since it started.. Everyone in the family has thier favorite boat, or Captian... its just a great show for us to get wrapped up in..

Now we of course knew that Capt Phil Harris died of complications due to a stroke back in Feb.. And we wondered if there would be a 6th season, if so how would it go, what would they show in terms of Phil... etc etc.. So we watched every episode, knowing they were going to get harder.. I actually believe that knowing it was going to happen made it even harder to watch..

In any event we watched the Phil's final episode last night, and I have to say that was the most tear jerking tv I think I have ever watched.. I have always believed that Deadliest Catch is probably the most real 'reality' show out there, and last night was as real as it gets.. Life is hard, unpredictable, and short. Its hard to lose people close to you, and its pretty darn painful to watch it happen to others.. Tell those you care about that you love them.. all the time, and cherish every minute you get with them.. You never know when the last minute is comming.. Stepping down from the box now.. thanks everyone for listening.. to the FABO family, love ya gang...

RIP Captian Phil Harris..

X2 One of my favorite shows.

When they did the "After the catch show" with Mike Rowe and they were talking to the camera man/producer for Phils boat, I think his name was Jeff. Phil called him in to make sure he got "The End" to the story. I was a little emotional to say the least.

RIP Phil.

My wife had a real hard time watching the last show, we are hugh fans, it was truely sad. He will be missed for he was a true american Character.

We have been watching since the first season, been to both CatchCons and living in Seattle, and having a boat, you can go out to Ballard and if your lucky the Northwestern and the Wizard will be docked there.

A lot of other ships are there too, North American, Aleutian Ballad, Fierce Alliegance, the Billiken etc.

The season before the show started, on the 4th of July, we were cruising around and got flagged down by a guy on a dock. He asked if we could take him back to his fishing boat. Sure why not. It turned out to be the Wizard. He asked if we wanted to watch the show from the deck, so, Keith, before he was famous, let us watch the show.

If anyone is interested, here are pictures from catch con.

The first one, in 2009, Capt Phil was there, but on a break when we tried to get his autograph.

Never miss that show. Capt Phill has always been one of my favorites. The hardest part for me to watch was when his son told him he was a drug addict. Knowing that time was running short for Phil, I hated to see him get that news. I'm glad he went into rehab before his dad died, but still was a heartbreaker. I have had a few people very close to me go through rehab, every one of them had to go several times to different places before it really stuck. It's not a quick fix. I'm sure Phill knew that also. Tough to watch. That's about as real as it gets.

Im with you there.. that got my wife and I choked up all over again when he said that.. It gave me chills.. I work in a nursing home, and I see hard to watch things alot, and I have seen things that just blow you away.. Phil making sure 'the end' wasnt missed is one of those things.. In the 9 years I have been working there I have noticed several times that people sometimes very much know that they are about to leave us.. its freaky to say the least.. When Phil told Josh he was sorry for not being a better father, wanting his good luck necklace, and then hearing later that he didnt want 'the end' missed, I really got the feeling he knew what was comming.. leaves a lump in the throat and a tear in the eye

So true, i wonder if your body lets yo know somehow, or if you can just let yourself give up, or something.

My grandma did that i think. She wanted to live to be 100, my grand father died in the late 80's and she had been alone since 88, and hated it.

But she wanted to be 100, she was always sharp as a tack, but a few days after her 100th birthday, her friend found her peacefully laying on her bed.

Weird thing, i was her only grand son, and we had just moved to a new house, which she had never been to, she had never been in the Scamp, nor had we brought anything from her house to ours yet.

I go out to the garage to go to work, and i could smell her perfume she always wore. EWWW CHILLS. That was a little off subject, wasnt it.

I saw that, too, Noel.

I also heard the comments from the show runner about how Phil seem to be doing a lot of reminiscing and planning for the future about the boys taking over. What we see on camera is only a bit of what happens.

My uncle seemed to know it was his day. He had heart problems and was on a very strict diet. He woke up in the morning in a very good mood. Happy, fun to be around, like he always was. Put in a good days work, came home. Told each one of the kids how much he and she meant to him. Played with the grandkids. Had a good chat with my aunt about how much he loved her. Really opened up. Then he said he was going to the store. Brought back a lot of ice cream and made himself a big banana split. Went to bed with a grin on his face. It was his last day on Earth.

With what the show runner said about Phil through the season and making sure to film the end of the story...did he know, too?

That last episode brought me to tears especially when Phil told his son he was proud of him. I guess I always wanted my dad to tell me the same. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, so always have forgiveness in your heart and live a life that God would be proud of. Christopher

Yes the Deadlist catch is one of the best shows on t.v. and Phil was one of the best characters to watch, but i doubt it's all reality some is played up for the camaras,he will be missed but i wish he didn't smoke so much he might just still be here..God bless.

Yes, it was. The tribute episode afterward was a good watch, too.

The wife and I agree.. the tribute episode was really cool.. I think the Discovery channel have handled the whole thing the right way.. with dignity and respect.. As for the the latest episode of 'Catch' .. It was emotional.. I got all choked up when Sig found out about Phil... and when the Northwestern slowly passed the Cornelia on her way out of St Paul... The crew standing together as they passed.. it was something..

This episode of 'after the catch' was the best ever. All the old stuff about Phil's start in crab fishing and his younger days seemed to make everything click into place. He will be missed.
