Time to pick some brains fellas.

I just picked up a Carter AVS 4734 for cheap. Picked it up with the intention of doing a rebuild. A source I trust suggested an AVS as over carbing is less of an issue thanks to the secondary operation. It codes out as a 1970 383 300hp carb w/California standards. I can't imagine what kind of emmission standards existed in '70 but how would this carb work on a well built 318? I think cfm would be around 650 and my main concern is this "emmission" thing.

Thanks.

LOL, Just hook it up and go. It'll be fine.
As per the Carter tech line years ago, there rated @ 630 cfm. Though many will say 600-625 or even 650.
Any smog hook ups are not to be worried about. PCV is all I can think off. It's probably calibrated lean on a 383.

The S/A design book?
Good book.

Heres the trick to carb rebuilding.
Clean clean clean clean clean....LOL
AND, blow out the carb with compressed air. Through every hole and slot.
After it comes out of the cleaning soulution, wash it down with water everywhere, every crack, hole slot. Then compresed air. Dry it up well. Then just take your time.

Then take the time to dail in that carb to the engine. You'll be happy.

the cali cars have a couple extra vaccum lines and a port on the side for a big thing on the pass side valve cover. If you decide that you dont want that carb let me know, i am looking for a 625 CFM Carter with C.A.S (cleaner air system). :angel9:
