My Carter AFB has a vaccum port on the electric choke housing. What is this for?

Does it have a vacuum signal?

What is the carb number?

What year engine is it off of?

So it is a performance carb not a production carb

My bet is if there is a vacuum operated piston inside the choke housing, it is either supplied vacuum from internal passages or through that port from an external source.

Some testing will tell if it needs to be capped, supplied a vacume source or left alone.

With everything hooked up as is, is there vacuum at the port at idle or at rpm (2000?)

If no vacuum then it does not need to be capped.

Next remove the electronic choke (note it's position)

Look inside the housing, with a vacume pump hooked up to the port, slowly apply a vacuum. Are any parts inside the housing moving? Can you hold a vacuum?

Report your findings

It does have vaccum at idle. When I cap it the idle dies down. Will check if vaccum signal goes away off idle.

Choke Pull Off

Once it starts it puls the choke back a little from completely closed so it stays running.

Then the electric choke backs it off as the engine is warming up.

The Edelbrocks have that port incorporated with the electric choke housing.

If you run it without the electric choke you just leave the port plugged.

Idle dies down when capped because your cutting off the extra air and this richens the mixture
