I am in the process of building up my 318. It is toally stock right now but a new cam has been ordered and my new edelbrock performer is waiting in the garage. I am now looking at the carb situation. Is there a big difference between the carter 650 and the edelbrock 1406? What would be some other choices? this 68 fastback still has the single exhaust so that it is my next step in the build up. then it is off to the drive train.

Both carbs are very similar, the 1406 is a street emission carb so it may be lean so you'll have to wait and see how it runs on your car.

I ran a Carter on the 318 in my 66 Vart for quite a few years and it worked extremely well. When I switched up to the 360, I used the same carb on a LD340 manifold, bought a selection of rods and jets, and tuned it for the 360. It's still on there and still runs great, and it's a hard carb to beat for a street car.
