Gts book doesnt list crank part ##s.
How do you tell the difference?
Thanks

Look at the parting lines on the crank. Narrow, peak shaped, (sharp) = cast. Looks just like the molding lines in any cast plastic item. If the lines wide, and has a ground off appearance, it's forged.

cast cranks have sharp'ish edges on the counter weights.

steel cranks have the wide parting line and the the weights also look like they were brushed=lines

and the cast crank casting numbers are displayed on raised pads.

Forged is a hot steel block placed in a mold and then the press comes and presses the crap out of it...leaves wide lines....cast is hot molten steel poured into a sand cast mold that has two halves...thus very fine skinny lines...just like he said about the plastic models..

these are twist forged cranks, as in twisted to rough stroke/shape then machined.

kellogg cranks are forged as is with no twisting, more desirable racing piece.
