were do i find the casting numbers on my 340 block ? and is there a link so i can find what the numbers mean ? also all this stuff about x and j heads can i tell what i have while heads are on motor ? link for numbers of head castings thanks alot
 
thanks for the info what heads r better x or j my dart is mostly street drivin but would like to get it to the track next year
 
X or J heads are basically the same. Most of the early X heads came with 2.02 valves while the J's mostly came with 1.88 valves. Combustion chamber size is the same in both heads. The general consensus is to go with the smaller valves for a street car so you don't loose too much port velocity and kill the bottom end power. If you have either X or J heads, stick with them.
