So I was changing the gears in the 81/4 axle from 3.55 to 4.10. When I put it back together I put the same shims back on the pinion. The pinion was touching the carrier so I removed the what looks to be a .070 shim from behind the big end race. The following pics are where I’m at with it. I was told this was a `76 axle but the carrier bearings in the kit for `76 and up where bigger OD then what I have, the pinion bearings where the same. Is there a difference between the gears before and after `76? Is the pinion still way to close?
Hope you can make out the crappy pics. Thanks for any help.

guess I have a 69 or 70 b body rearend..2852905, bolted right in my 69 a body?
OK so after taking all shims off the pinion it still looks to be too close or is it that these gears with 10/95 stamped on them are too new for my old *** rear?
