ok i'll try to make the story short... in the early 90's i put a 71 dart together for my sister to drive when she got her license... nothing big... 6 cyl auto ps/air... i did make it pretty cool looking though... put the scoops on the hood had it painted yellow ( i wanted to do it panther pink but she wouldn't let me) bumble bee stripe and rally's... i also changed it over to large bolt pattern disc brakes. it was a really cool for a 17 year old girl to drive to high school.. especially when all her classmates were driving brand new cars... needless to say everyone knew who's car it was..... anyway when she got out of school she went to college in maryland and needed something better on gas so she bought a little nissian sentra... i ended up buying the dart from her and putting a nice running 030 318 in it... it had a hemi gring cam small 4bbl and headders with a 3.23 8 3/4 ... i drove the crap out of that car... i took it everywhere. the car got tons attention and i hit all the cruises and little shows in the area. i met alot of mopar friends in that car(and my 64 valiant). anyway i drove it for a while even used it as a daily driver for a while. i ended up putting a pretty stout 340 in it and before i even had it running a friend of a friend wanted to buy it... and since i had a few other cars at the time and a new born i ended up selling it.... so the guy who buys it buys 3.91 gears that i put in it for him and just beets the living crap out of the car for a few years... he only lived about a mile from me so i would always see the car around and occasionally do some work on it for him.. boy did i miss that car.... it was so drivable and fun to drive... so the kid ends up selling the car to another kid who deosn't even have his license yet and that is the last i see or hear of the car...... no one i know ever saw the car again.... sofast forward to about 3 weeks ago.. i get an e-mail from a reaal good friend and it says i might have found your old yellow dart... i get directions to the place which is only about 5 miles from me and sure enough its my old car. and does it look bad. sitting under trees it almost looked green.. anyway i go back when i see a car in the driveway and talk to the kids sister (very cute by the way...lol) and she tells me that her mother wants him to get rid of it but hasn't talked to him yet(yea me). so i leave my phone numbers and i don't hear anything for a week or so the he calls and really doesn't want to get rid of it but maybe to a good home. so i explain how i built it for my sister and my son has some memories of it and wants me to get it back... so we were suposed to go over and get it running that weekend but the kid never calls.. i didn't call him because i didn't want to seem too eager of a buyer. so a couple weeks go by and i stop over again and the sister says mom told him that he has to get rid of it now. so i make sure they have my # and wait for the call... still nothing. i'm starting to think screw it i'll just go back to working on project swinger which was kinda on hold until i found out the deal on my old dart....so a little over a week goes buy an i hear nothing ...on sunday morning 6-6-04 a friend calls me to ask if i heard anything about my old dart.. i tell him no and how pissed that i haven't heard anything from the kid and all that good stuff. so i'm laying around the house a couple hours later relaxing before work and the phone rings... it was the kid about the car... tells me that mom wants him to get rid of it . he tels me it has a 360 with eddy heads and a bunch of other go fast stuff on it... but he doesn't really know anything about cars in general.... his father was helping him with it and passed away a while back....the father worked for drag racing monthly and there are suposed to be a few articles in 98 or 99 about the build up on this motor. and he says ray bartons shop put it together... i really have to find out if this is true... the mother says they were looking for the magazines for me but didn't come across them yet. but anyway i go over there to hear it run before we work out a price and after getting a fresh battery in it and gas up to the carb it fired right amd man does this thing sound good.... i mean really good. ready to tear your head off good.... so we come to a price and i leave a deposit... i go back with the money that jamie (aka fine69)(my girlfriend) lends me(awesome isn't she) and buy the car back yesterday 6-7-04 on my birthday... i bought myself a birthday present.... its in front of the house and i'm trying to clean it up and will straighten a few things out on it and then hopefully start driving it....i've been bouncing off the walls. tyler (my son) is loving it also... he has been drawing pictures of it for a week now... anyway here are some pictures of it then and now....

this is it when my sister had it in the early 90's

Wow, you got yourself a NICE present there. What a wonderful story. I'm glad things worked out for you and I'm sure the car will be much happier now too. :D

The body still looks pretty good for sitting under the trees for a couple of years!! Good luck with it!! :D

its time for the front to get slamed to the ground! What do ya think buddy?looks good

Congrats on getting you old car back  That thing really looks good for having sat under a tree for so many years. In Hawaii it'd probably look like a pile of rusted scrap metal after that many years

the body took a bit of a beating and it looks better in the pic then it does in person but all in all i think its starting to look like its old self again....

my car was almost the same if not worse then yours was when i got the guy had it siting in his drive way for 13 years and thank god she cleand up very good now she just has some surface rust in the back and iv already takin care of the front rust!It just amazing what a little hard work can make a car come back to life!i love it!

Looking good and Happy Birthday!

Thanks....I know.... 8) ....Well I did get my bday present too on Joey's bday....he got me the axles I need for my rear ( that so doesn't sound right if taken out of context...lol).

I can't wait to drive it....(hint hint)

well ups delivered my throtle/kick down cables today and my alt. brakets. all went well. the alt belt now stays on...lol and the ps belt is where its suposed to be... after a half qt of ps fluid it now has power steering again and after 3 qts of trans fluid it goes right into gear. i also put the stock 340 aircleaner back on it.... its the same one that the car had back when i first owned it.. its been sitting in the attic since i sold the car..... knew i would use it for something one day....lol.

Wow Joe.. never read the story on your Dart before. Very cool that Steve Collison had it for a while.. In thinking about it, I seem to recall an article or two on the car, but for the life of me cant recall which mag it was in. Thanks for dredging this one up.
