well i need to check to see if my heater core is leaking and what not, concidering when i got the cuda it was all by passed, i was wondering any tips for removing the heater assembly, also on testing to see if the heater core is good or not, maybe just attatching a hose to it and putting some water in her and if she leaks then replace. i havnt taken out the heater box assembly yet so im a lil nervious

does the heater work at all? Mine was bypassed when I got my car, so I replaced the heater core only to pull one out of the dash that was just fine.

I have no idea why they bypassed mine, except that the blower switch was kaput.

Have you tried turning the blower on? does it work? is all the wiring present and accounted for?

removing the heater box is not too easy, if you have a glove box liner you will want to unscrew it to make things easier.

s'all i can think of right now, just crawled outta bed

yeah the blower works good and all the switches work n such from moving to floor to defrost, and the motor blows good but its just for a fan now, heater core was by passed, and all wires are persent and dont appear to be hacked near the assembly

I'd pull the whole assembly now, before you actually need it. Pull it apart and clean all the stuff that has resided in it from day one, and look at the core and air test it. Only saying this because if it leaked before and it was bypassed but corrosion has plugged the hole while sitting with no coolant, it might test fine in there. But at least with my luck the day I would go to drive it somewhere it would puke it's guts on the floor, only if I had nice carpet, or any carpet that is.

thats a good point the first day i decided to lay down nice carpet it would throw up all over it :cussing: i could very well see it i guess i may as well and at least clean it

I agree; I pulled my heater box when I was painting the engine compartment and found a ton of debris in the area of the heater core. When I pulled the core out to have it rotted out the radiator shop said that it had been leaking for quite some time and was beyond repair. By the way, my heater worked before I pulled the box. Be very careful pulling off the clips the plastic box is easily damaged.

Not so funny story from yesterday afternoon. Took car over to shop, played with timing a little (running it up to 3000 and all while sitting still in shop) adjusted slightly, re checked, backed out of shop, stomp on gas pedal for quick little launch test, NIAGRA FALLS from the passenger side vent box under the dash :cussing: Anyone know how to get ethylene glycol out of carpet? :pain10: Heater core is now by passed till I get the time to pull it out and fix it.

Sorry I wouldn't know about that. I haven't had carpet in my car since the second day Iv'e had it. I would think a real good vacuuming and some carpet cleaner would do it. I don't have to worry about that stuff yet only because I have a nice drainage system for my floors.

About the only way I know is to keep flushing the carpet with water and a wet vac to dilute it to the point it is gone.
