Took my Barracuda to have the wheels changed. Looking out the window I see one of the shop guys sitting in my car. He should be starting it and moving it inside but all I see is him sitting there. After several minutes I walk out and ask "whats wrong?" He says "I can't get it started." I say "did you flood it?" He says "No. I have not touched the gas."

In short he was a young guy that had never driven a non-fuel injected car. He cranked my starter to death.

My question is, do I need a new starter, can I get away with a solenoid or what. It is not my battery. I gave it a full charge and the car will start if I click the key about 30 or 40 times. BTW this is the original 37 year old starter.

Give it a rap or two with a hamer to see if it starts. Cross the 2 conection points with a screwdriver.

New starters for those are cheap. After 37 years its probably time to just replace it.

Id say. where will you be next time this happens and you CANT start it?????
