i have come across a 69 dart swinger 340 with extensive damage to front of car and a very serious rust issue. my question is i have a donor car in excellent condition but a 6 cyl car -rather than strip the donor to replace just about everything on the wrecked one -could i not move everything from the wrecked one to the donor and have a rebuilt swinger or would it be considered a clone. Thanks

It would be a clone. But unless your going for a factory correct car, does it really matter?

I agonized on that question for a long time before buying my car. The best part that I see driving a 'clone' is that there is no guilt in adding modifications. the down-side is where do you stop....there's no end...money buys speed. If you decide to drive an unmolested car and maintain it.... there's no end...... NOS parts are worth their weight in gold. YOU CAN'T WIN
Just enjoy, drive it and keep it on the road no matter what you drive.

Are you going to move the vin and fender tag?

If you move the vin, fender tag and all parts.... Some would call it a re-body..

This argument is a never ending circle... Question is what % of the real car do you need for it not to be a clone.....

I would do which ever car you feel is going to be less work, then drive it like you stole it.

I vote for rebody. A friend of mine has done several, and never misrepresented what they were. Several of his cars have resold for pretty big money.

if you do a rebodie ...keep the original body...just think about all those Hemi Dart rebodies...those old original bodies are now GONE !

I never was one for re-tagging a vehicle. That's just wrong. First seller might represent it correctly, but what about the second and third sellers?

In fact, in most states moving VIN and fender tags is against the law. It seems silly but I know a guy locally who had a 1970 GTO Judge with numbers matching engine and trans but the front end was gone (just engine and frame) and the rear end, floor pans, etc were rusted out. He had a perfectly good 1970 LeMans but couldn't use it...so he saved the firewall and cowl from the GTO and litterally cut it into the LeMans. Lots of money but a beautiful job. That, they say is still legal...but moving the tags from one car to another is illegal. Go figure.

Man do what ever you feel more comfortable with. I would probably clone it. In the end it is your car and what you want.
