Single disc or dual disc?
Organic, ceramic or Kevlar?
Any brands better than others?

Looking to replace clutch 71 Demon 340

Appreciate any input. Thanks.

my personal one is mcloed b&b/long pressure plate with organice disc., works great. , its simple and works

I think a huge factor will be your power output and expected use.
I have heard really good things about McLeod and recently got one to convert my dart to a 4 speed. But I will be running a basically stock 360 and I'm going for a fun cruiser, not planning on racing. I'm sure my choice would have been different if I had higher output and planned on racing it.
Brewers is a good place to start for ideas

I am currently removing a McLeod RXT dual disc ceramic diaphragm clutch from my Dart. I was talked into this clutch in 2018 when I didn't know a great deal about clutches. I can't stand it, there is no modulation, it is like an on-off switch, when it bites there is no forgiveness. These are a known parts killer. In addition, I am not a diaphragm pressure plate fan, too soft for my taste.

I am replacing this with a McLeod, Borg Beck and Long style pressure plate with a 10.95" organic disc with a flat plate carrier and no marcel. This should be less grabby and violent, while providing clean high rpm shifts.

My choices are not likely to reflect the masses here, trend seems to be soft pedal diaphragm clutches these days, however having run one, I wouldn't do it again.

There are some guys on here that know a lot about clutches, do your homework carefully.

A friend put one of those in his camaro. Yep, on or off. Pain in the azz because there is no feathering. It's a racing/stock car thing. I have a standard B&B style in my 66. It works well and has some feel. I am pretty easy on it though.

we ran our b&b/long, in a 340 duster, was not a parts breaker, very consistent, very reliable. also you can have base pressure changed , my friend had his set at 1600,# base pressure, also, you can install c/w on fingers to have clutch not slip at higher rpm. just food for thought.

Have one in my 95 z28( I know, yuck right?). Sucks on the street. Custom made by Milwaukee clutch, in/out, grabs hard and harder the hotter it gets.

You see short track cars running them, the way they jump from a standing stop/start.

Hate to see my flywheel when I replace it.

I got an APE powerbrute(no longer in business)3800 lbs pressure plate and matching disk made also by Milwaukee Clutch. Its a workout on your leg, but when you get used to it, it’s smooth and it does not slip, AT ALL.

the b&b/long does not require strong leg to operate it. easier on your leg. btw , ours ran low 11 sec car., my friends was a street car. mine was 1400 # base with c/w

I am getting ready to put this McLeod RST dual disc in my Duster. It is supposed to handle the power level I'm building and still remain streetable. It was recommended to me by Brewer's. She's a beauty. Too bad no one will ever see it.

I am a streeter. but
by it's trapspeed, my 367 is making 430 hp.
I am very happy with the CF diaphragm PP, the Stock Flywheel, and a factory 340 organic disc.
However; the discs barely make it thru one, or mayb, two summers with my driving style.
The discs usually fail by
1) cracking at the spring pockets then spitting out the shock-springs, then vibrating. or
2) the hub tears out of the disc.
3) The only one, to shed linings, was a riveted one.
Until one day;
I installed a Commando trans, stopped using the GVod as a splitter all the time, and I changed my driving style, lol. Additionally;
I spaced the PP away from the crank; A little slip below 3000 was a real clutch-saver.
I have been running A-bodies since 1970, and the only automatics were in 4-door cars. The point is this; since 1970, I have run many many clutches, most of which were B&Bs. The CF is my first diaphragm and now, after the static clamp was slightly reduced, is the one I like the most.

Was a LUK dealer for many years.Ran there standard diaphragm kit in my blown 340 for years.4.27 rear gearing.More than a couple 2nd gear hole shots,when it came out to put the 408 in,the only damage was the lining was cracked in three places.replaced with a center force organic,hope it’s not a disappointment.
