I was trying to make a pair of strut rods the other day and I notice some have a coarse thread on the K frame end and some have a fine thread.

I suspect the fine thread is from the earlier cars 67-72 and the coarse thread is from the later cars 73-6

can anyone confirm this???

...............U got it...........the fine thread take a 1 piece bushing and the course take the multi piece bushings.........kim.......

Correct, 67-72 have a fine thread and the 73+ style have a course thread. Also, because of the difference in the bushings the 73+ strut rods are physically longer than the early ones (to account for the thicker bushings). So, you can't mix and match strut rod bushings without compromising your suspension geometry. Not all of the aftermarket bushings are right either. Just one of the reasons I use adjustable strut rods instead of stockers.

Seems to me that screwin' with strut length might get you the caster you seek LOL

I've always seen the fine on one end and coarse on the other...

Most of my stuff is 65-71....

Then it should have fine threads on both ends.

73-76 strut rods have course threads on the K member side and fine threads on the LCA side. 67-72 strut rods have fine threads on both ends.

Here are some pictures as you can see the coarse threaded are shorter from flange to flange between the LCA and the K-member for the use of larger bushings.

The space where the bushing goes is longer for the use of a two piece bushing on the coarse threaded rod.

Although there are two piece bushings available for the early rods as well. But they are a lot smaller and do not require a steel sleeve.

That is the way to tell the difference. Later bushings and rods use a steel sleeve between the washers on the coarse threaded rods. the early fine threaded rods do not
