Coasting w/a 998/999

I have a 998/999 trany in my parts donor that has a curious feel to it. When I take my foot off the gas it immediately slows down, almost like a manual transmission. That's strange enough, but when it gets down to about 30 MPH it feels like it stops to slow down and feels like it begins to coast. Is this normal?

Sounds like the lock-up converter is unlocking at 30. Sorta like pushing the clutch in.

Is this normal? I've driven automatics for years now without any of them being so pronounced as this one.
