Does anyone know what fender tag code A38 (police package)entails on a March 72 340 Duster? I know the thicker radiator & heavy duty clutch fan for the a/c are involved but not sure what else..... Thanks! D

The police package cars back then usually had, besides what you mentioned, a larger alternator, heavier springs & sway bars, even heavier duty vinyl upholstery &, although it's never mentioned, I have seen some cars with thicker padding & springs in the seats. I can't remember what year but some of the manufacturers even modified the cars for more rear seat leg-room to deal with "passengers".
Mopar was strange back then as you could order a ton of HD stuff via the police package, yet get it in a small. stripped-down 6-cylinder car. The logic was, the larger PDs (like NYPD) needed the HD stuff but not the big engines as their policy and/or environment simply wouldn't permit high-speed, so why order the "extra" horsepower?
On the flip side of all this, there were PDs that went over the top, ordering the best of everything then allowing their officers to modify it from there. When I was in law enforcement in N.M., a local State Trooper's car looked like it rolled off of Daytona. That car had EVERYTHING---rollcage, big tires, Recaro seat, headers & a ton of stuff done to the engine.........

Wonder if it could be a miss-stamp of A88

That would make more sense, however given the equip of the "police package" I could see someone, a gearheaded cop perhaps, (trying to ) order it or perhaps a PD thinking they need it for UC work.

A lot of those HD options and a 6 cylinder engine could be a taxi cab package....that was one of mother Mopars special vehicles. That was one way to get a 727 transmission behind a slant six.

OH yeah, I had a 75 dart Taxi Package. You could drive that thing off a cliff.
It had 225/727/8.25. Power steering, manual disc brakes 340 Tbars. NO sway bars.
XHD seats. They were like concrete. It had door jamb switches in the rear, but they were attached to a "door open" light on the dash. It had rubber carpet, but it was about 3 times thicker than the standard stuff. It was just too rotten to save. It also had the extra torque boxes in the rails like an old 340 4 speed car. There was also a lot of extra mig welding on top of the spot welds. 26" rad, tranny cooler and on and on. It was a TANK. I can't imagine what a full boogie E58 A Body cop car must have been like.

We had the cop car A-bodies here, and if the shop prepped them they way they should, they really ran well--far better than the cop car Novas we also had. Now at the time we also had a turbo'd Volvo we were doing endurance testing on for Volvo of America, and that could stay with them on the top end but in terms of endurance & all-around power, the Aspens & Volares we had were a fun car---kind of like having the power of the big-block Fury & Satellite, but the compact size made it easier to manouver
