I have a Cold Case radiator in my 68 Barracuda. I bought a kit with their fan shroud and electric fan BUT due to clearance issues I can't use the fan and shroud. I'd like to know what fan you're using and if you have a shroud what are you using?

Hi Ron,

Your CC radiator looks very similar to my Champion. I modified a stock style 325 radiator shroud to fit mine using the following link. Went together very well and allowed me to keep my OE style fan and clutch:

I have a 22" Cold Case in my 69 Dart. I just used the OE shroud & clutch fan assembly. With a 340. No problems at all.

Maybe this might help as I ran into this common problem too. I have a Champion #526 radiator in my 72 Demon. 408 stroker motor. I looked at MANY different setups and ended up using a Jegs #555-52115 dual fan assy. It took a bit of fab work using little screws and such but I was very happy with the clean look once done. I control the fans separately with switches and to date, this setup seems to keep the engine cool even in 90+ deg weather. Some pics:

Here is the fan unit itself mounted to the rad before I stuck it in the car. Note that when I installed it, I also added some flat alum strips to close the open gaps where the fan barely extends past the rad on the sides.

Thank you but trust me...there are people on here with MUCH nicer cars than mine!! I am on here to learn from so many people that have knowledge and expertise I don't have. The collective knowledge on here is tremendous and fun! And when someone has a bridge to cross that I already have, I try to share it in case it might help.
 
Just for other A body readers info. Cold Case makes a direct fit unit for hte 67-69 A body which your oem A body shroud will bolt right up to. However, when a customer wants a full kit from us, we recommend a different 22" Cold Case model. That model is a hit or miss on clearance because of so many factors. So if you try and use this 2nd model with a factory shroud, although the rad will fit the support properly, the shroud is not going to fit without mods.

The radiator I bought was a MOP755A which moved the lower hose to the passenger side. This gave me the ability to use a newer style aluminum water pump. Other than that it changes nothing. I am very happy with the way the radiator fits and looks now it's just figuring out what fan and shroud to use. THANK YOU to Chris and Ken at COLD CASE for helping me out. Great Guys to deal with.
 
If you had stayed with the cast iron pump, you would have 3/4" more room, but you already have the radiator for an aluminum pump.

if you decide to go electric, do a search for ford contour fans
 
I decided on a reproduction 7 blade clutch fan and factory shroud #325 I bought from Mancini's. There is a gap between the shroud and radiator is it necessary to fill it in? Still has to be better than no shroud at all.

I hate how aftermarket aluminum radiators space out the shroud like that so there's a fat gap. It's almost like they make the mounting brackets so wide in order to fit the rivnuts for the shroud mount. I ended up filling mine with a strip of aluminum. I figured what's the point of having a shroud if it's not close to the radiator tanks.
 
I am too detail crazy to let that big ugly gap go. I am going to find a way to fill it that looks good.

I hear ya man. I'm the same way. Here's how I ended up modifying mine. Whether or not it makes a lick of difference - I have no idea. I sleep better at night though.

Old post but chiming in maybe this helps someone ….As of September 2024 the “gap” problem is still not resolved just installed a cold case radiator and mancini fan shroud and there is a fat *** gap by the top tank. I’m thinking some high heat silicone rubber strip to fill in the gap . My thought is the silicone is a safer bet with any vibrations while running …it’s a tight fit right where the hoses are .I had to slightly modify the shroud nothing crazy just a little cutout so the hoses fit comfortably . I think if Cold Case just pushed back the side brackets ~1/2 inch it would definitely help or somehow add extra material on the sides of the tank to have the mounting holes practically flush.
 
Oct. 2024....same design still. easily fixed with several ideas on this forum. Cut the shroud to fit inside the channel and remove the rivnuts, garage door seal riveted to the shroud.....or custom bend metal in shape of shroud and rivet to shroud to extend towards the radiator. the only real thing that sucks is cutting or punching rivet holes into a 200 plus dollar original Chrysler fan shroud....but i guess if you cared about that you wouldn't be putting an aluminum radiator in your car. One thing that would be good to know is which way puts the fan blades at the right depth....in the channel or extending the backside of the shroud towards the radiator.

Edit: after measuring the thickness of the radiators....the correct way is to mount the shroud with the rivnuts just like CC has it and not inside the channel. the CC radiator is thinner then the stock radiator....but guess where the rivnuts put the shroud.....right at the same thickness as the factory radiator. so i'll be making an extension to the shroud and using the rivnuts to bolt it on.
 
Odd to me, I have a Cold Case radiator, did not have to modify anything for the fan shroud.
 
did you not have the gap between the shroud and the body of the radiator on the top and bottom?
 
Had improper gap between fan and shroud, but radiator and shroud cools my 418 just fine. Hayden #2947 clutch drive and 216 fan blade, on a cast iron Flowkooler water pump.

don't ask me how or why since this is supposed to be a direct replacement, but my 2747 Hayden fan clutch is too long now. measuring the core to the water pump snout is 1/2 less clearance now. guess a 2947 is in my future. I read that the 2947 was made on request by a mopar person??? if that's true. THANK YOU!!

Been there, done that, and have the receipt to prove it. Then I installed my new Glen-Ray radiator and had to go back and buy the standard length one! :BangHead:
