been thinking about going with new trick flow heads, and still considering doing so.
That said, i currently have a combo that is ultra consistent. Would like to go faster, and intend to race more next year, probably race points at my local track
Currently have a very basic, all stock 360 shortblock, stock rods, pistons and crank.
Am using moderately ported eddies that have been milled to 57cc. Provides 10.3 ish compression. 1 5/8 Dougs headers, 950 carb, airgap, 8 inch convertor that i missed on( will need readjusted) cam is 260/264 565/ 565 with my 1.5 rocker gear. Likely a bit too big admittedly. Car runs typically 11.40’s in the summer, has been 20’s in excellent air....

Now my question.........

Were i to take my cam, headers, carb, etc with either my current intake or perhaps change to a victor, and swap all of it into/ onto a 12.6 ish compression zero deck flattop 418 shortblock
340 40 over, scat forged 4 inch crank and rods, icon forged flattops...... what would the car be likely to pick up?
Know the cam will be liked better, headers will likely be too small, and will adjust convertor to suit.
I can do all this for virtually no money, because i want to rewire car and do some engine bay freshening this offseason, and i already have the shortblock sitting around in wait.
Thoughts on likely performance gain?

If you're planning to race for points and your Ultra consistent as you put it right now I wouldn't touch a thing!

Agreed. I just know continuing to run this stock 360 innards shortblock has a very finite lifespan.
Already have two years on it. The 418 is fresh.

My experience has been consistency is 100 and 10% the key. Going faster just makes it more expensive. Seemingly anyway I cut it?

Agree. That said, i have a nice ladder bar car that works well, and and picking up a few tenths wont change that, car can take way more power than this plan i have will make.
Frankly, the car currently is better than me..... its such a pooch compared to previous cars i have seriously raced that i have had a tough time “ finding my spot” a somewhat quicker reacting car will help on that front. I was deadly with my 9 sec car

For zero $$ I would swap everything over, use the airgap with a 1" open spacer and round the edges of the center divider. My guess 10.7

The 340 in my Dart had ported Edelbrocks, 293 @ .650, hydraulic cam with 1.6 rockers, 236/242 @ .050", .592/.586" IIRC, 11.4-1, X-Cellerator intake, Q-750 with 1 5/8- 1 3/4" TTI headers, 727 with a 9.5" converter that flashed 5000. At 3240# with 4.30 gears it ran 7.24 on pump 93.

The 408 that replaced the 340 was 10.8-1, the Edelbrock heads were sent to Ryan for freshening and 2.055" intake valves, no additional port work. A Victor intake that I deep port matched, Bigs 950HP, Hedman 1 7/8" w/ 3.5" collectors, a flat solid 260/264 @ .050", .633/.628" w/ 1.6 rockers. The converter was freshened for the new engine and flashed 5200, same 8 3/4 with 4.30 gears. The engine ran on pump 93 like the 340.

At 3260# the first pass it hooked up it ran 6.82, the second pass that it hooked the 8 3/4 broke. I replaced it with a Strange S-60 with 4.10 gears and with some tuning it ran 6.57 with 1.38 60'.

IIRC your car has ladder bars? It runs hard with the 360 and I suspect it will with the stroker. I'll hazard 6.80-.90 and maybe .70's after some tuning even with the smallish cam, headers and limited head flow. I'll also guess it likes 6000 rpm or close shift points. My 408 liked 6400 best, the cam was from Hughes and Dave said it was to big for what I was doing and should like 7200 in a 408ish small block. His thought were that my heads were holding it back.

Yep Justin.
Last outing the car ran 7.23
4 times in a row. Had a long wait till the next round because of funny car and jet show, put a 22 on it and it ran 22, went red that round.Shift it at 6200
Your right, with the smallish heads( i suspect they might peak at 275/280 ish at 600) and small headers the 418 will probably like 6k. Nice long happy life.
Will have lots more compression, should 60 much better.

I think your third paragraph has its own thread potential. I could definitely collaborate a damn near identical story.

I am thankful this nice Cope trick 904 i bought from a member on here( billet drum, A&A brake equipped, yada, yada,...which i dont use) didnt have a low gear set in it. I wont need one. Would be counter productive with squeeze and 4 inch arm.
I am sad i missed on the convertor for this 904, its too loose and has about 12-13%slip in high gear.
Car has yet to run what it did last season with a 727 and one step too tight of a convertor.
Got good air coming, maybe even this Saturday if i can make a footbrake race at Mid- Michigan Motorplex, to try and get this slug at least in the 11 teens.

Good luck and have fun Don. There is a street car race Saturday night at my local track but I'm on nights this week end.

I would guess mid ish 10's (6.70's 1/8) with the kinks worked out.
