Well, I made a bone headed move and installed my cometic head gaskets and eddy heads and forgot to install the lifters. Duh! I had my heads all torqued down and then tried to put the lifters in, and well now I know you pretty much have to install the lifter first. Anyway, I've already remove the head on one side. My question is, are my cometic gaskets ruined, or can I reinstall? Please help.:angry7:

Cometic gaskets are reusable but I dont understand why you need the heads off to get the lifters in ? The heads only cover the pistons, lifters are under the intake

i cant imagine any V8 dodge engine that you have to remove the heads to install the lifters???

I probably could have, however it was pretty tight. These are roller lifters in a Magnum engine. I thought the same thing, however the pushrod hole on the head gaskets seem to be in the way. So I can reuse the Cometic head gaskets?

The intake is was never on, as this is a fresh rebuild. These are roller lifters, taller than LA flat tappets. Think before you try to condescend.

Hydraulic roller lifters should still be able to be installed with the heads on, solid rollers too for that matter. With the Eddy heads though I don't know.

As for other Dodge engines that have to remove the heads for lifter access think new Hemi. The valley is dry and the heads cover the lifters.

After reading this post it was never apparent early on as to why lifters wouldn't go in any Mopar. I don't think anybody was condecending. Just trying to help with what little info they had. You didn't describe what you were working on.

O.k. then. I'm not that dumb as to not know how to figure out how to put in a set of lifters. Yes, this is a fresh rebuild, 360/408 on an engine stand. And no, the roller lifters do not fit with the Eddy heads on the engine without perhaps bending or mangling the pushrod holes on the cometic head gasket. I just wanted to know if I can reuse the cometic gasket as I had already torqued the head down.

Thanks,
Darren

Yes you can re-use the gaskets.

If you used new ARP bolts or studs check out their tech manual on line to be sure you have cycled them correctly and you won't have to re-tork.

Cometic also has the new Viton Rubber coated aluminum gaskets now available for SB and BB in .030, .042 and .060 for Oil Pan, Intake, Timing, Water pumps all of course reusable No Silicone or glue required.

Don are those oil pan gaskets a 1 piece deal and do they have both the 318/340 and 360 available?
