why will they bleed off over night? Shouldn't they stay pumped up longer than that?

What do you have those in? They are not designed for "extended street use". It's right in the Comp description. Yes, they are designed to bleed off. That is their intent. They are variable duration lifters, similar to the Rhoades design. They are for use with larger hydraulic camshafts to help build a better vacuum signal and improve idle quality and bottom end torque. They pump up as RPM and oil pressure increase.

EDIT: Scratch all that. I had a dyslexic moment. I thought that said "882" instead of "822". The 882 lifters are the variable duration. The 822 lifters are not. My apologies.

Thats ok, this is in a 360 with a 508/292. I adjusted them tuesday and wanted to do it again last night and 5 or 6 of them were soft.

All depends on the lifter to bore clearance, lifter preload, the oil used, and the spring pressures. With the exception of the oil type any of those individually or in combination can make the lifters bleed down. If you used the 822s (stock type lifters) where Comp recommends the 867-16s and adjustable valve train, and/or you have some loose lifter bores (very common), and/or the preload is on the higher side they may bleed down because of the spring pressure. The 822s in my truck are quiet even when left sitting for weeks without running.

You might try reducing the preload on the 5-6 that are noisey. Not much - maybe 1/8 turn or something like that. Preload should be .020" - .050"+ on those lifters. Depending on your rockers' adjusters 1 turn is about .100".
