I was saving this but decided to let it go to someone who will actually put it to use since I don't have a car yet to install it in.
It is a date code 2-10-72 block std bore with 4 valve notched forged pistons
587 J heads 1.88's I think
38744115 distributor
Thermoquad carb 6-2146 needs a soak
228 pan with windage tray
Intake 3671918ae with spacer
I have all bolts, alt brackets & etc for it except for the pulleys & linkage. The bottom end is still complete & not froze & the heads are still assembled. It will need a minor rebuild, bearings, rings, hot tank & go through the heads but it's all there & and an easy build. $800 obo & pick up in chicago

What is the vin on the block, first message, second pic, right below that drain plug in the side. On the flat machined pad. The casting date is above it as well

Is it just me or do the valves look bigger on one and small on the other

Actually it was pretty clean so it was pretty easy to get the vin. It looks like it was rebuilt before & they used black instead of mopar engine paint. Vin is 3B580755

I will be leaving fri for the weekend & won't be back till early evening on sunday, but could leave it with my buddy near by if someone wants to go that route or wait till I get back.

rebuilt but still std? where in chicago is it located?

everybody who is selling either blocks or complete engine at a good price are always on the other side of the US. Good luck with sale.

I shipped a block air freight to CA once, but this is a bit heavier & bulkier so may not be worth the trip

I'm posting it here 1st & I will be listing it on Ebay when I get back on Sunday.

That's a HUGE spread from casting date to when the car would have been built, like 15 months.

One more thing. On the front of the block just below the drivers side cylinder head surface, there are some numbers. Can you get those?

Well, this was all I could make due to the stamp stutter M340M3R080706255 & the vin # I gave is whats on there. I took sandpaper to both.

Thats cause the car rust out before the engine gets ruined.....
On the other hand your cars are rust free but emission control and overly popular /6 spoils engine power improvements/upgrades......

I took 15 pics & this was the only 1 I could make out

There is no over sized stampings on the piston tops, they have 4 valve reliefs, the freeze plugs were replaced & there is no orange or blue paint under the the black on the block which would lead ME to think it was rebuilt previously.

Those are not factory 72 pistons,I have never taken a stock 72 & up 1 apart that had 4 reliefs per piston
