no, it's not what you think it's about! let me give you all an example or two.
I'm a collector,a.k.a. a pack rat. guess a true collector would have items on display. I keep 'em stashed in boxes.
Boxes...another bunch of stuff I keep because "someday, I might need that box" and/or "it's too good to recycle".
thought I was lazy (no projects really get DONE), but when talking with a friend, found out it's an affliction he also has. for example, we buy a project car, collect parts, look at it, picture what it would look like finished, and then it sits as driveway/garage art. house project example: Wife asked for a screen door for her birthday. bought the door, put it in her garage. as a friend told her, "Barb, you have to ask for it installed".
 
Dude, I feel your pain. Been guilty of that as well. Fortunately for me, getting started is the toughest part. Once I start, I am obsessed. Kept putting off a bathroon reno for years.......One day, I put a sludge hammer through the wall and was finished in a week. Other members here have cited the same situations. LOL, ask your wife to start nagging you....that will get it done! :lol:
 
I have always been a "results" type guy, but in my old age I admit I am not physically able (or financially able) to get it done as fast as I like. plus I am not a perfectionist. Some things need to be right and perfect and other things, well I want to drive it before I reach 110 years of age.
I admit I have always had spare parts on hand, always made sense to me. But I sold off my lasr Mopar (for now) and have a couple of Ford projects, so there sits boxes and spare Mopar engine parts!!! :BangHead:

shame we don't have a traveling "barn raising" crew. go around and help members get their cars done. but then again, I like to work alone.
 
I'm the opposite. I'll collect things if I think there's a chance I'll use um on a project. But let um sit on the shelf too long and they're gone. lol
 
"Junk" and "stuff" are NOT the same things.

True "hoarders" have trouble telling the difference.
Ever see a car or van absolutely filled with old newspapers?
That's hoarding.

If I have one of something, there a real good chance I have four or five of them.

I DO display my vintage stereo components
I DO display several of my guitars
I DO display one of my swords
I DO display one or more of my cars when I am driving it for the weekend, or as today, to work.

I live rural about an hour from the nearest town. A friend once asked why everyone in the boonies has a pile of something......I can't tell you how many times digging through my junk saved me a 2 hour car ride. Not to mention when the neighbours drop by needing something.

LOL......As for the newspapers......Great for lighting fires. My wife grabs a handful of freebees every time we go shopping.
 
I recently visited my dad, and he's hoarding. A dozen mid- '60's Chevy trucks, soda cups, shopping carts, a BILLION tools ("They don't make 'em in USA anymore!") and he's off painting trim on a house he's about to sell while he ignores all the **** piled in the yard. Little pathways through piles of scrap wood. Tools on the floor. Junk on the floor. I literally took a tub of trash outside and put it on the curb, and he went out and picked it up and drug it back inside.

Ugh. I at least box my stuff and mark what it is so whoever cleans my mess up can sell this crap on eBay and get rich.
 
I have always had the "multiples" syndrone!!! If I have a certain model, lets say maybe a 72 Duster, or a 65 Dart. whatever..then I have this bad desire to own 2 or maybe 3. I can not be satisfied till one is at least running, or rust repaired and at least primered, the other 1 or 2 probably would have to wait ( till I can afford to get to them). If I have 1 A body A833, then I seem to think I need 2 or 3 of them! Crazy!!!!!!!
