Connecting Rod Bolt/Nut Choice

I'm new here and have found this site to be a very valuable resource. With that said, I have searched unsuccessfully for an answer to a question I have. Is there any reason to use slotted hex nuts on connecting rod bolts in an engine build/rebuild? For reference, this is a .030 over 360 engine with stock crank/rods making 450+ HP. In the photo, a stock type nut is on the left and a couple of the slotted hex nuts that were removed are on the right. I haven't come across this prior and would like to ensure there is nothing I may be missing. Thanks

I wouldn't use the slotted hex nuts. You will have less thread engagement to retain the nut. 65'
 
Go to ARP and order a set of their rod bolts and nuts, one and done.
 
The last dude under the shade tree assembling your 360 must have lost some nuts… “Castle” nuts are not recommended. At lease look at ARP and order from Summit. Summit is a little cheaper and free shipping than ordering direct.
 
That is why this site is the best, most people here are willing to share their knowledge to keep others from making mistakes.
 
Early Hemis ran slotted nuts from the factory. Like said above, just run the first level ARP bod bolts and nuts for your engine.
 
I don't know the answer to this, but I thought I would throw it out there, although perhaps just myth, that the big end of the rod will need to be resized after installing arp rod bolts. Some say this is only true on their wave-loc bolts, not the standard ones, others say the resizing is necessary because of the higher torque spec of the arp bolts. Others say just send it.
