A Hurst a body console shifter can be used.

What did you trim the top around the boot with? How did you attach the boot on the bottom? I see the screws. Looks really good

There is a FABO post from years ago that advised you can use a thin body side molding (from a parts store) on the top plate to surround the boot. To be able to screw down the boot, I used deep threaded fasteners that, are held in place with (expensive) two part 3M body structural adhesive.
