Could someone tell me about the interior light(s) for the convertibles?
The only lights mine has are in the instrument cluster. Been using a flashlight for years, but that gets old.
Under the dash, there are a couple of holes on the passenger side that look like it would have been there. The wiring is such a mess, it's no help in figuring it out.
I know the lighting couldn't have been very good from the start. Has anyone tried any kind of custom light setup? I was thinking some kind of lights in the doors or under the dash pad would be good, but don't know which way to go...
Any pictures you could post of the stock lighting or a custom setup would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There was a courtesy light harness (might have been optional) that plugged into the main harness and into the door switches. The light was over on the right hand side. I had a 65 Coronet convertible that I parted out and it had a pair of courtesy lights included with the power top harness. They were in the rear panels down low under the window handles. Needless to say I saved that harness for my GT convertible even though they never had that option. Got a couple of the original lights/harness if you're interested.

Do you have a picture of them?

I think it would be interesting to have several small lights throughout the car. Front and rear door panels and dashboard, something like that. How about using something like the little round front turn signals some mopars used in the doors? I think it was around '68 that they had them.
Maybe using LEDs to keep the power consumption low?
I've never done any projects like that, so I'm interested to see what others have done.

There's also no light in the trunk. A string of LEDs glued to the trunk lid with a switch is what I was thinking about there.

I figure the factory setup probably wasn't very good, and I'm not picky about it being original so that opens up a lot of options. :)
I just want something good that fits the style of the car and doesn't look out of place.

Pictures - we need pictures! :-D

There are 2 little lights in the rear side panels down near the foot well. They didn't help much. A couple of leds in the bottom of the rear view mirror would be nice.

They must have been optional or something, because I don't see any evidence that there were any lights at all except for the little holes in the bottom lip of the dashboard. :( This is a 270 model.

As far as something up front, I was thinking of a few little lights on the panel just behind the dash pad. It wouldn't have to look perfect, because the bottom edge of the dash pad would obscure the lights themselves. A little SPDT toggle switch could also be hidden up there, to turn them on manually.

The more I think about it, the more ideas I'm getting. The fact that this little panel is slightly hidden opens up a lot of options!
I'm assuming that with the dash pad removed this area would be easy to get to...

What do you think about something like this? There's also room for another on the left side above the transmission buttons. :)
