Watching movie Slither from 73, with James Caan.....saw these weird looking contraptions in it.

Looks kike a prototype for the Trans Vans of the '70's. My neighbor has a beat up one. It's still cool.

Early conversion vans. Looks like alot of fiberglass or bondo where the doors were. :wtf:

They were designed by Larry Shinoda who was a designer on the Ford Mustang. They are actually Rectrans Discoverer and there was one by me for years, know a couple people that have them. Way ahead of their time but heavy and had some issues...

This 1973 Rectrans Discoverer camper is from the last of a three year production run, and incredibly was designed by the legendary Larry Shinoda. Though he was most famous for designing the 1963 and 1968 Corvette Sting Rays and Boss 302 Mustang, he owned and operated an independent design firm following his departure from Ford in 1969, hence this wild motorhome
Riding on a Chrysler M-300 chassis, there’s a solid axle up front and either a Dana 60 or Dana 70 at the rear with leaf springs all around. Doing its best to push this camper down the road is a 413ci Chrysler wedge packing heavy duty internals, connected to a 3-speed “Loadflite” automatic transmission.

M300 frames?
Looks like a truck tire in post #1.

There was one for sale on Craigs around here last year. Thats a long front! Supposed to be very rigid and somewhat quiet driving as the shell was one piece. I still like the GMC 6 wheeler better. This one is Zombie!
