Howdy folks,
I did not know there were so many different types of hoses being used. Don't know why, I thought we had fuel line and heater hose and that was about it. Looking around the Goodyear website, though, and there are different types of hose, with different specifications for every application.

So, my questions. What type of hose do you use for the carb or manifold to power brake booster? What type of hose for the PCV to carb? What type for the auto tranny line to radiator connection and radiator to tranny oil cooler?
I know the sizes, just looking for the type of hose y'all use.
Thanks,
C

I always use fuel line for fuel line as well as larger vacuum hose, like power brakes. If one decides to backfire or diesel you will get some fuel vapor in the larger vacuum lines. But now on top of that, you need to make sure the hoses are ethanol friendly, too. Fuel injestion hose, although expensive, would probably last forever there.

Thanks Rob, I was thinking that fuel line would be ok, particularly since that is about all the local auto parts houses carry. I may try to find some tranny specific hose, though, fuel line never seemed to hold up that long before it starts leaking.

Do not use Fuel Line for tranny lines, they make specific hose for tranny/power steering return line. Tranny fluid will break down rubber fuel line in about 6 months. (Ask me how I know, lol).

Yep, fuel line isn't good for trans. use. If you can't find line specified for trans. use look for low pressure hydraulic hose. It's basically the same thing. There's not much pressure there.

Here are most of the Goodyear hose numbers. Fuel line-regular 5/16 is 65123, Fuel line-regular 3/8 is 65124, Trans cooler hose 5/16 is 65211, Trans cooler hose 3/8 is 65213, PCV hose 11/32 is 65185, Power Brake hose 11/32 is 65107, Power steering return hose 3/8 is 65221. I have others in my books if needed. Hope this helps. Now these will be on spools of 10, 25, or 50 ft, they will cut off what you need and charge by the foot.

Ok, I'll bite. How do you know???

I used 5/16 copper 4 radiator to tranny. Commpression fittings. No problems or leaks. Good luck!!

Thanks for all the info, now to find some tranny rated hose.

You are lucky. Compression fittings are generally a poor choice for automotive or other applications where vibration is an issue.

There did/ is used to be a specific type of compression fitting however, that was "better." These were used in truck applications and used a long nut that looked like the long flare nuts (SAE flare)
