Correct Rear Leaf Spring and Hanger Finish?

I'm replacing the 40 yr old leafs with new reproductions. MP painted them black. Also, the spring hanger brackets and shackles were bead-blasted. What was the factory finish on these?

Some were bare steel, which rusted in a manner of weeks, some were painted black, there is no way to tell, since springs came from different suppliers, the shakles were bare steel also. I used Eastwood Diamond Clear Satin to coat my bare metal peices, I painted my springs black. They appeared to be bare steel from the factory as I could find no trace of any paint at all.

Hey thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure, but thought I'd ask. I'll go with black and clear coat the bare metal pieces. Looks great in your thread. Nice work there.
