My 4 speed just started to grind a little bit going into third, so I stopped driving it. I got a book that shows a833 rebuild pics along with chevy 4 speeds, and some others I got it at barns and noble. I've been reading up on how to do it and it looks like I might be able to pull it off if I take my time. I haven't pulled the trans out yet, do to family trips and all. But I seen on brewers web site before ordering a rebuild kit I need some numbers off of the trans to get the proper rebuild kit for my 4 speed model. Are these kits complete? or are there other little parts or bearings u have to order also? I know I can ask brewers when I order, but being how I haven't got my trans out yet I just thought maybe someone here has bought through them. My other question is about how much would a shop charge to rebuild it. If I was to go that route.

The kits that brewers sells are complete to do basic rebuild of commonly worn parts (bearings, syncros, seals etc...) there are other parts that can wear due to high mileage and or abuse such as forks, sliders, input/output shafts etc... you wont know until you tear it apart. Don't order anything until you disassemble the trans, you might find you need extra parts. Rebuilding an 833 isn't hard, if you have the ability to take stuff apart and put it back together right you can do it yourself, just download a service manual or get a hard copy and study the pictures and follow the steps.
