Hey Guys,

Just joined FABO and am now well into the classifieds that cover about every corner of the internet (for A body sales that is).

I've come across a listing for a 71 Dodge Demon, and I could really use some help in determining if the info the guy has in the listing is legit or not.

I was confused when i saw that he's posted that the car was originally a slant-six, and now has a 400 in it. Demons didn't come with 6's did they? Could he just be incorrectly advertising it as a Demon, and it's really only a clone build off a Valiant with a slant-six?

If so, would it even be worth it? The guy has already gone through the trouble of resizing the backend to 8 3/4, and has fitted brand new disk-brakes all around. The car has zero rust on it (originally from Cali, now in Texas). Basically, for $4000, it's my perfect car for a first crack at a resto.

Still trying to get a contact number so i can squeeze some more info out of the listing, but i would greatly appreciate if any of you A body fanatics or Demon-Slayers could give me a crash course on any of the options/engine types for the car.

Thanks,

Brendon

Welcome to the site! There is a wealth of knowledge here.

I'm pretty sure some Demon's did originally come with a slant six ( just as the Dart Sports did ). If it is a clone, it probably was done off of a Dart Sport ( or a Duster, but then it should still be titled as a Plymouth Duster ).

If it is a real Demon, and in good condition it probably is well worth the $4k. If you could post pics of it, more people would be able to chime in with advice for you.

Yes the Demon could be ordered with either the 198 and 225/6 or the 318 or check off the kill square and get a 340. Mine originally was a 198 and there are several swap kits out there to go to a 383, 400 or 440. The 340 order came with an 8 3/4" rear and 727 tranny whereas the slants and 318 could have been the 7 1/4" or 8 1/4" rears and 904 tranny (I think you could get the 727 with the 318 but not sure). There was also 2 instrument panels available for the 340, either the standard square speedo one or the round Rallye one.

X2 on the engine choices. A guy down the street from me has a Demon that came with a /6 in it.
Also Rallye Gauges rock! But if you want them your going to pay to get them, but deals are still out there. I got mine for the entire setup for 200 bucks from a member here (dash, cluster, gauges, and wiring).

These are all from the listing, and i'm sure you can tell that there isn't much to go off of.

Got a hold of the guy selling it and will supposedly have more pictures (better quality too) of the car by Monday. Made sure to stress that i want shots of the engine compartment, interior, trunk, and rest of the underbody.

doesn t look too bad. the slant six cars were not beat on most of the time, so...most of them are generally tighter and more complete than the 340 cars. on the other end tho...a 340 demon is worth more. but who cares. if you want a hot rod you can have fun with..it s all personal preference. if the body is solid on that car.. i would say that s a good buy.
