Even though its not a Mopar I could'nt pass this buy up. I picked up
a 1977 Pontiac Bandit Trans Am for 1200 bucks off the original owner.
The guys niece drove the car thinking it was in 4th gear, and it was in
2nd gear, grenading the 220hp original Poncho engine. The car is super
clean with 56,000 miles on it. I already picked up another 400 for it for
300 bucks. I'm hoping I can finish it this weekend, keep it for the summer
and then sell it. Again I know its not an A,B, or E- Body, but I could not
pass it up. I can make my money back and then some, believe it or not
these cars are going up in price. Not sky rocketing but getting of value.

Boss Vega had one. Sold it last year.

Your has a Pontaica 400 in it ? I think most of them were Olds 403 powered.

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. I saw several at the spring Daytona show for sale. Some as high as $17K and a real nice one w/ a 455 for $7K. Don't know if they sold or not.

The 403 Olds engines, did'nt start till '79 year, along with the
rubber nose header panels.

The 403 olds was used in California and the 400 in the rest of the states. I believe you can tell the difference on the shaker or the hood. The 403 was listed as T/A 6.6 and the 400 i think was just 6.6 liter. A little research and you can clarify it. I am just going off memory so i could have them backwards.

I picked up the motor for this car yesterday. It's a 455 Pontiac out of
a 1971 Grand Safari wagon, at least it'll have a little more power than the
77 motor. I don't want to spend any more money on this car, I'm gonna put a
timing chain on the motor and an edelbrock intake, that's it I'm going to
keep the Quadra jet carb, I've built enough of them.

They are pretty neat cars. Fun to drive. I used to race around in a Pontiac when I was young. It ran decent for the time era (13.90's) but I didn't like losing to Mopar's all the time and it happened every time I raced one. That 71 455 is a torque monster but very rpm limited. Don't expect it to pull much over 4000 rpm if it's the stock cam. It should be good for mid 14's if you can get it to hook up.

Keep that original engine to sell with it and it'll be worth more. You know what numbers matching means.

Sounds like a good money maker for ya.
