Old subject, but still a current issue for me. Has anyone found a supplier for a cowl repair panel for these early A-bodies? I'm almost to the point where I can start planning on replacing all of it, but would like to put new metal in there. Anybody have any luck with taking pieces from a 67-74 style panel? Mine is a 65 Dart 270.

I just replaced my entire cowl section (upper and lower) in my 65 Valiant. Found good donor pieces from a 63 Dart. Just had to transfer my original wiper motor and bracket. Never found any source for repops.

No and No. Not repopped. Used or fabricate only.

On my 65 wagon I ended up replacing the top and bottom as a complete unit from a 65 Barracuda I parted out.

Look on the exterior parts board. Theres a couple of members that are pretty good at coming across early A parts. 63-66 A,s will work not 100% sure about the Darts

The op didn't say what car he was working on but I would stay with the same model for the donor car parts. There may be a difference between Dart and Valiant/Barracuda. For instance, the firewall is different between the 63 and 64-66 Darts.

Tell you what, if I had to replace/repair mine I'd be doing away with the damned vent.

If I didn’t have a suitable donor part, that’s what I would’ve done. I kinda like the fresh air vent feel though. Especially since I won’t have AC in this car.

I like it to but the way they did it is a **** setup

I was thinking the same thing. Removing all the under dash heater box and misc. and then installing an aftermarket heater/A/C. Probably still have to have a source of outside air though. Thank you everyone for the input!

Got the drivers side off. I did not know the emergency brake support was spot welded to the bottom of the lower cowl. The brace plate for the windshield wiper transmission mount was also spot welded to the lower cowl. The used replacement pieces weren't spot welded in either location...hmmm. I also found a big chunk of body lead down inside the firewall support!

Pretty sure lead was used from the factory in the corners where the cowl meets the A pillar.

The spindle for the wiper arm (not sure what they are called) slides through that hole from inside the car. They’re held on with a clip. I’ll see if I can get a better picture for you.

Here it is from the inside with the wiper linkages attached.
