I know what ur talking about here. It can be done. If I remember right, I think I used an angled pair of bird nosed pliers. It`s more fun if you`ve had a broken neck and the trunk lid is on the car too .

unless i can find a set that has about 6 inches of bend, that own't work either.
I may modify the clip with a welded on tab

worked for me dude ! twice, had to do it again after the paint job u can see in my avatar pic.
