and your question is?

Google 10,000 day calendar if you are looking for the born on date.

These heads do not have 10,000 day calendar dates.

In this case, 2990 is the 299th day of 1970, so they were cast during the 1971 model year.

They should have a letter near the spark plug hole on the outside. X, J, U, etc. Probably a standard 2.02 intake valve 915 head unless the pushrod holes for the intakes are moved in which case they would be the Holy Grail TA/AAR head. That's unlikely.

"J" cast by the plug

Are the push rod holes showing in the picture enough to tell if it's a T/A head?

If not... what to look for?

They do not have the offset T/A intake holes.

No X on 915 castings, but they can be J, O, U or Z.

915 heads were used for the smaller intake valves as well.

I saved this from an older thread because it comes up fairly often;

X's were 894 castings maybe?

I can't keep all this crap straight.

Pretty sure that the OP has small block Mopar heads.

valves might be 2.08 intake I don't think you could get a larger valve in that head there almost touching.

71 340's had 2.02 intake valves, it wasn't till 72 when they went to 1.88 valves.

But.......

915 casting were used on 360s starting in the 1971 model year, so they have small intake valves.

A fair amount of them have been opened up for larger valves since then though. :)

So if you go by this chart what 2.02 heads did 1971 340/275 Hi Compression 4bbl motors have?

Back to these-

AAWJ

3418915-C - if you look at the chart below the only 2.02 valve 915 was the T/A
So the date code 2990 comes out as Saturday - 10/4/1970 That would make it a '71' car cyl head
The AAWJ and the cast "J" by the plug hole confirm - J

Members stated above:
My heads do not have the T/A offset pushrod holes. (I don't know what I'm looking for as far as 'drilled offset')
Do Not have 1.88 valve size. 2.02 min (but looks 2.08 ?) Heads are not here for me to measure.

So ... what I come up with if the chart is correct:
1.88 heads -70-72 360 head or a 71-71 340 head with 'oversize' valves installed.
Or:
If the chart is wrong on the 71 2.02 heads then these are just that Oct. 70 produced 1971 340/275 2.02 heads With maybe 2.08s in there now.

OMG ...

That's a pretty broad statement,
do you think this chart is wrong or suspect?
know of another source?

The Galen books list 3 915 heads,
70-71 360 with 1.88 intake J, Z, or O
70 340 TA with 2.02 intake U or O
72 340/360 with 1.88 intake J

This chart says 68-70 340 984, 71-72 915. In reality 68-69 340 984, 70-72 915. I have never seen a 70 340 with anything other that 915 heads.

So the never built 70 340's, they were J heads 2.02

68-71 340 heads were 2531894 X heads with 2.02/1.60 valves according to my books.

I have had 3 1970 340 motors in the past and they all had J heads I have a 71 now that has J heads 2.02 valves, I've been collecting 340's sense 1975

Head date code May 4 1970.JPG

The chart does not contain all the information.

The X heads were used into the 1970 model year, but not for all of the 1970 model year.

There are plenty of 1970 340s out there with 915 heads.
