Dakota tailgate

I am looking for a 1987-1996 Dakota tailgate to build a bench for my nephew for Christmas. These years have the embossed DODGE letters on them. The only one I have found locally is a 1990 with the aluminum trim panel right over where the letters would be. Does anybody know if the embossed letters will still be under the trim panel? I tried searching the truck forums with no luck.

Thanks. That's what I was hoping. I know I will probably have to fill some attachment holes also.

I bought the tailgate and removed the trim, and the embossed letters are there. Just need to cut off the small pins that held on the nylon trim retainers.

The last year that the letters were stamped in the sheet metal was 94.

In 95 they went to the silver decal that went across the tailgate just under the horizontal character line and eliminated the stamped "DODGE" letters in the sheet metal.

Then in 96 they went to the same "DODGE" decals that went on the back of the RAM.

Then in 97 for the new launch, they went to the red reflective letters, then silver in 98...


Don't ask me how I know... I just do....

why stop there?

if you buy the whole bed you can toss a matrass in there for him and he'll have the coolest bed on the block

(wouldn't take much ingenuity to hook the tail lights up as night lights either)
