Wanted to remove the tire on the rear of the '65 Signet convertible. First had to remove the "baby moon" to access the lug nuts. Tried by hand with a large flat blade screwdriver, nothing doing. That's when I noticed each time I leveraged the screwdriver against the rim, I was leveraging against the trim ring, denting the chrome over and over again with each attempt.

I removed the trim ring and used a hammer along with the long screwdriver to remove the stubborn hub cap. Live and learn.

Look around & find a "hub cap hammer", it has a spool bill for removal & a soft rubber head for installation.

Make your own. Get a long straight slot screwdriver, heat up the end and bend the sucker.

Edited for spelling. :BangHead:

I never smoked until my tasks that required finesse were completed.:BangHead:

Oops. Always take the trim ring off before the hub cap.
