Deep sump oil pan

I know i'll never hear the end of this, but i hate paying for something i can do myself with the correct knowledge, with that being said, can someone tell me how much i need to add to my stock 318 oil pan, to bring it up to an 8 quart pan?

you want to cut the stock pan and extend it down?
 
the hard part will be extending the stock pick up. im not sure if you can just buy a pick up that is the correct length right off the shelf. they might be a start though. i would cut the bottom off the sump. buy a new pick up for a deep sump pan and mock it up. measure how much you need to add to the pan to make the sump line up correctly and then build the pan to fit the pick up. what ever the capacity ends up at is what it is.

if you look at this moroso deep sump pan..it says it is 10 inches deep from pan rail....that should give ya an idea...holds 8 qts..

also you might want to look at milodon pans too...give you an idea how deep you need to go to increase the capacity....and if you stay with their depth ...you can use their pickup...

and you want to weld in a baffle to keep the oil in the sump during hard accelerations
 
What are you doing with the car? If its a drag only car, let it hang. But if its a street car, anything lower than the k frame, is asking to damage if no broke open.
Instead look at the Milodon, road race oil pan. It holds 6 quarts and sits above the k frame (so no hitting that) and its baffled plus it was co design by autoxcuda.

although i hear what you're saying, and it does look good, and i am sure serves the purpose well. but it also backs up my point. i don't wanna spend a hundred or more on a deep sump, i sure don't wanna spend 450. yea , i am cheap, but i am also on a limited budget. thanks for the input.

a bit of advice here,dont just make the pan deeper,if you are anyway putting the time and effort into it try to build a good pan that adds volume without hanging lower than the K member.

i have a moroso pan and its alitle hard on my nerves driving anywhere where the road is not nice and flat.

as you can see in the first pic,the pan is not red anymore and there is reason for it,the bottom of the pan has hit the ground countless times.
 
Rather than cut and add a piece between the two, make a square cornered sump and weld to the pan. You'll be suprised how much more volume there will be with square corners than rounded.

If your real handy cut of the flange around the K frame and weld then form a sump close to the that shape with a square cornered bottom bumped out a little on the one side. This will give loads of volume in that limited space. Did this on my sons Demon.
 
Me and my buddy built a custom pan for a 360 we but in an Arrow.

We had to move the location of the sump and make the sump deeper.

It is not that hard if you have alot of time on our hands and can TIG weld so you dont warp the crap out pan rails, and have an old engine block to bolt it to while you weld.

We used 3 stock oil pans to make one.
Lots of time involved R&R the motor several times, but you could not buy a pan that fit.

Do our self a favor and buy a new one or put an add in the want adds and pick up a used one, this is a common part for our car.
