I was told that A-body defroster vents are the same as Dodge Van vents up to the late 80's. Any Truth to that ?

Unlikely, 66 Barracuda defroster vent uses 2.5 inch hose at duct with 2 inch at core. The others I do NOT know about.

I don't know for sure, but they look exactly the same from the top. Haven't ever taken one out and measured them side-by-side, but they are close enough that it's worth investigating.

If you are in a pinch and can't find a pair, I think I might have some in my attic. Send me a pm to remind me to take a look.

They look the same from the top, but don't have a hose hook up on the bottom. Plus they are pricey from the dealer.

I just removed a set from a '74 van nosed motorhome and I can't see any difference when compared to my '66 vents. In fact I used the defroster tubes from the motorhome also. So maybe not into the eighties but perhaps into the late '70's?

What I found online, is the same part for 63-66 Abody, 64-65 B-body and 72-80 truck is all the same piece. If I recall, there was another year van that the top was the same, but the hose fitting was square instead of round as well.

Those are the ones I was thinking of.

Just called my local dealer, and the vents for a 79 B series van are part number L716DX9, black only, still available for $34.30 list. I do not know if these have the correct hose connection.

There is a problem here, somewhere. I know the vents for a 79 are different then for a 90 something. The number L716DX9, is the number my dealer got from a paper catalog, and he said it is still available. The link you posted shows that part number for 94-97 and no longer available. So I don't have any idea which is correct, at this point.
PS: I did look at the 78 truck service manual, and they look to have round connections.

From Layson's catalog:

Dash Vents. pairs only
63 -66 A-Body
64 -65 B-Body
72 -80 Dodge Truck

Most likely Year One, Dante's and others will have the same.

My comment was for 66 barracuda, which matchs what I see in the above posts. BUT the 65 Coronet has different defroster vents.

I'll bet it does. I thought we were discussing the original poster's question about A body dash vents.
You might find info on the Coronet vents on For B Bodies Only.
Or was the Coronet a C body?? Darned if I know!

Layson's listing was a, b and van. 65 Coronet is b body, so some errors exists in listing without pictures.
edited: and by the dirty dash the Coronet is not being worked on.
