we are going to detroit for a few days the first week of october. checking out the ford museum, truck plant, chrysler museum. anybody know any good local places to eat/hot spots/etc.?

I'm in Windsor, right across border. If you plan to visit bring those passports as the US has a new law that says everyone needs passports now.

For detroit, you can check out Greek Town which is right downtown. Restaurant called the Parathon is out of this world and is truely the best greek food.

Detroit also has a Mexican Towne section by the bridge. Kinda a rougher neighborhood but it's safe. Mexican Towne Restaurant is the best one there.

If your going to the burbs, there's alot of good places along M59 highway which is right next to the Walter P Chrysler Museum. Head east from there.

If you are downtown there are three casinos, Greektown, Mexicantown, get a coney dog from Lafayette CI, Hockeytown Cafe, the Detroit Institute of the Arts is impressive. Greenfield Village is something to see, Detroit historical Museum, Hitsville USA. on the north side, downtowns Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Birmingham are cool to walk around. you must drive on Woodward Ave, and imagine that road filled with 50,000 classic cars and 1,000,000 people streched across 16 miles. If you get far north of the city go check out Frankenmuth and take in some fall color. most of all have fun!

Check out this if you're going to be looking for Detroit automobile production history: http://www.hotrod.com/thehistoryof/hrdp_0910_motor_city_monuments/index.html.
Not the happiest story by any means, but some really good information on the old production plants.

i get hot rod,so i made my stepson read that article so he could appreciate what detroit is all about! i am originally from lorain county area ohio, but generally people in the south do not know the impact of some of the towns up north on this country. thanks for the info guys!
