Went to AutoZone the other day and the slot for Valvoline VR1 20w-50 racing oil was gone. They told me it was discontinued but thier website shows it available. Anyone no if its true or if Valvoline discontinued producing it. I was thinking of switching to Shell Rotella 15W-40 anyway. Been running 20w-50 for the last 11 years / 10K miles....Will switching to a thinner oil after this period of time and miles affect anything negatively? I thinking no and I'll probably get a small boost in oil pressure. Insight fellas...
:burnout:

Just bought 5 qtr of VR 1 last Thursday at the local auto zone seem to have plenty on the shelf, also have use Rotella did not notice that much of a change in oil pressure to worry about it. would be good to know if they if they stop producing the VR1 though.

Well........... I've been using it in my ramp truck for many year's, and have never had any engine problem's at anytime. Matter of fact....... my engine machine shop co-owner, has told me more than a few time's, that Shell
Rotella 15-40W is one of the best oil's out there for heavy duty use. And plus I've known him for many year's, well he will be 75 YO this Tue's, and been grinding crank's for 55 year's, so I take his information seriously, as he has been around the block many time's. And yes, it will boost your oil pressure some, which is alway's a plus, and IMO, will not hurt performance any either, but some may disagree. Good luck with possibly changing your brand.

Rotella 15w-40 it good stuff. smells funny though but good oil. what i run in my valiant and my honda

One of our local stores isnt selling it anymore either.... think its just not a big seller in certain areas. No need to stock it.

Another oil thread. From 40 years experience: only 3 companies make the oil. Then it is re-branded. That walmart oil might be Kendall, only cheaper. Weight- 40 might help a loose engine for a year. Since the gov has been pulling zinc out of the oil; just buy some Lucas, or whatever.

AMEN! :prayer:

been telling people that for years.

One has to keep checking the "rating" - SJ, SM, SN, etc./CI, CJ, etc. Every time they change it, something in the formula changes. If it says it's suitable for the newest diesels, it may very well have reduced or very little zinc because it isn't compatible with the newer emissions stuff. It's not easy to keep up with.

I'm aware of the oil companies sharing their goods for years but what "Walmart" / inexpensive brand has Zinc in it besides VR1 & Shell Rotella?
