I have just bought a 65 dart gt 273-2 barrel -4 speed, and noted that a friend of me have a 66 dart gt 273-4 speed but the shifter have like a "t" to input the reverse mine not.My shifter stick shows both sides hurst name a have a black espheric knob, and in the floor have like a plaque that shows the gears position. What shifter is better the ones who comes in 65 or 66?the gear box is the same?
thanks, a lot!

Like this?

Your transmission likely has a Ball & Trunion style U joint and I believe in ’66 Chrysler went to slip joint. Servicing Ball & Trunion style U joints is near impossible these days.

The shifter in your car with the "T" is a stock shifter made by Inland. The smooth round stick shifter is a Hurst shifter and I dont believe they came from the factory until 1967. The Hurst shifter is by far the best of the two.
The photo is of my 66 Dart before I bought it (Hurst shifter)

Toolmanmike is right, the inland is not the best, I had one in my 67 Barracuda. My 70 340 Duster had a Hurst. I like the Hurst alot more. Inland shifters do look cooler though. Mine worked well but as it wore became a small problem( became hard shifting) When I go back to the 4 spd I'll use a Hurst, parts are available and easy to get.

hi, In 1963 through 1965, chrysler used hurst shifters in their cars, In 1966 they went to the inland shifter. I owned an original 1965 dart gt with factory hurst shifter. the inland shifter cost less to buy!!!
