I just got finished doing a disc brake swap in my 1966 Valiant with discs from a 1973 Duster. I bolted up the 73 brake hoses and they appear to be too short. :blah5: They stretch tight when the wheels are turned sharp. I figured I would use these because they were matched with the 73 parts. Will 66 Valiant disc brake hoses work from the earlier calipers? Any ideas on other that will work? any help would be great, Thanks! Keith.

Did you install them with the calipers in front of or behind the spindle? I've read there are a couple of ways to work things depending on where the calipers are mounted.

Did some research.
The 66-72 calipers were mounted to the back, while the 73-76 were mounted towards the front of the car. From what I have read the hoses do not interchange.
Did a parts search and found out that Rabestos makes two different length hoses for 73-76.
One is 11 7/8" and the other is 15 3/8".
Sounds like the 15 3/8' hose might be the ticket.

You were going to put new hoses on anyway right? :)

Raybestos 11 7/8" part# BH36582
Raybestos 15 3/8" part# BH36755

Best price I found on the 36755 was www.partsamerica.com (kragen) $14.99

Hope this helps.

Well, I think I may have put it together wrong! :blah5: I have the caliper mounted to the back side of the spindle. I had the duster parts for a while and never thought to check the difference. Will the calipers work on the rear side? Are the spindles right and left? Everything is new and painted, it will really suck to switch the two sides around! :banghead:

O great,I got to get the book back out.LOL
I know you can swap the 66-72 spindles side to side.
Let me check on the 73-76.
Be right back !!!!!!!!!!!

Got it.....
If you are installing 73-76 brakes on a pre 73 a-body you will encounter interference between the ends of the sway bar.So swapping the spindles side to side and putting the caliper to the back is the remedie for this.Doing so will not affect suspension geometry or ball joint angularity, the spindles are symmetrical. If you chose this route you will need to pay paticular close attention to the brake hoses to be sure that they do not rub the tires or suspension components during suspension travel or when turning. If you need longer or shorter hoses,Mopar performance offers a selection of hoses in various lenghts.wwwwoooooooooooo.

In short you are ok if you get the correct hoses !!!!

Info out of a book everyone should have.

Wow did I ever luck out!!! :tongue3: I will be putting an aftermarket swaybar in too. I will try the longer brake hoses that you suggested, they only need to be a tad longer. Thanks a lot Johnny Dart, I will be able to sleep tonight!!

The one other thing to watch for is to ensure that the brake bleeder valves are at the top of the caliper when installed, not facing downwards. If they face down, you'll probably never get all of the air out of your lines when you go to bleed your new brakes.

I mounted my calipers to the front on my 66 dart - the sway bar end links would just barely touch the backside of the caliper if the suspension was at full travel down on the bumpers and at a full turn on the locks. Only with these two extreme conditions did the sway bar end link contact the caliper, anything else and there was no contact. (In fact as the pads wear the caliper will move away from the end links) I figured these two conditions will never happen in normal driving - only a wreck or some other outrageous thing would cause the problem - so I just left it as is. Besides I was able to use all stock pieces this way, making replacements an off the shelf item, whatever !

I have it all put together, just need to get some longer hoses. I don't have my engine in yet so I have not tested anything, it all fit good. Thanks again Johnny Dart!

I did the same swap on my 64. I used Aspen/Volare hoses with rear mounted calipers........
