Dist. drive gear replacement

I it possible to change the distributor drive gear without tearing everything apart? I've never tried this but seems like you could use a long extended grabber to pull it out through the dist. hole if it's not siezed in there. Am I on crack or not? Mine seems to have alot of play when you grab the rotor and move it back and forth, What is a acceptable amount of play there?

I don't believe your play is in the drive gear. I would say it is in your distributor. But to answer your question, yes, you can remove the drive gear and shaft thru the distributor hole.

340mopar, I think you may be right, I checked a distributor that I have laying around and the play I am feeling is actually the the advance unit. Thank for the info thogh on pulling the gear. I will try to save that in my limited brain space
