Hi all,

Do I have to use a Mopar distributor bushing tool for my 360 block to fit the brass bushing?

If so does anyone have a spare/secondhand for sale-with my exchange rate from South Africa and no stock here it's so expensive.

Please let me know!

Thanks,

Brett

Pioneer Engine Products, www.pioneerautoinc.com used to sell one that didn't need to be fitted. Don't imagine they'll sell direct, but they can point you to someone who will.

If you buy a plain stock brand new drive you can use it to drive in the bushing and it will be fine. It has to be a brand new drive tho, and it goes easier if you oil the ID of the bushing before driving it to keep it easy to remove.

Do the bushings need to be honed to fit the distributor shaft properly? I have heard they may be slightly undersized.

Some bushings fit the shaft BEFORE they are pressed in, and are compressed some when installed. This is also true of aluminum housing distributor bushings.

wow...i used the old distributor drive to drive in the new bushing...the new drive slid in and spun freely........

If there's no "pilot" the bronze may compress and the ID shrinks. Not always, but sometimes. With a new drive as a pilot/driver (so there's no wear on the surfaces) the bushing can't make the ID smaller.

Pop it in with a long 1/2 extension upside down and hammer, then use old drive to hone it by cutting an angled groove into the side of the shaft and turn it into the bushing while pushing, like screwing in a bolt.

Thats what I've done for a while now with excellent results and zero cash spent.
