When cleaning up my distributor (Elec Ign, SmB) I busted the plastic retainer bushing at the bottom. The one held in with a roll pin. other than another distributor, is there a source for these new? I've seen some links from years ago, but couldn't find the actual parts.

Hah! that's who I was trying to not to bother directly. He's already been extremely helpful!

I tell ya, I've met some pretty awesome folks here...
He's the go to guy for distributor stuff for sure. He's a great guy and know's his stuff!

Just bought a rebuilt and recurved dizzy from him for my 273/235 eventually going in my wagon.
Mine actually came from him. He provided a working core for my son's Valiant. i was cleaning it up (sitting in my garage, is started to get some surface rust) and I effed up the bushing.

You can get a set screwed collar at Ace Hardware (just be sure to blue loctite the set screw)
They work just fine, but if you want the plastic part again I understand.

Nah, he's helped me out in a huge way, and i appreciate it. Trying to NOT be that guy who won't go away and keep bugging him.

I'm a "I'll teach you how to fish" kind of person so I'm trying to get this done myself by learning something....

That might work, but I'd rather go with what the factory did. I am guessing there is a reason ( galling?) they used plastic instead of metal of any kind. Thanks tho.

They used to use metal with the roll pin but at some point not long ago switched to plastic.
As long as the thrust washer between the collar and the distributor body is there it's perfectly fine.
I have used the collars lots of times without any issue at all.
You can even set your up and down endplay with them unlike the roll pin type (without drilling a new hole for the pin and weakening the shaft)

My concern would be the thing coming loose and dropping into the motor. I'm sure it's never happened, but then I haven't had my chance yet :)

It can't drop into the motor because it would stop at the oil pump drive gear.
Just loctite the set screw, or if you are concerned about it peen the edge of the set screw hole so it can't come all the way out. (only loosen)

Don't do it if it bugs you, but I'm telling ya from experience it works perfectly.:D

Ya know, the best part of that response, is the lack of the "If you don't do it this way, you're an idiot, go work on chebies..." attitude that a "very few" folks have...

I didn't say it's not a good idea, just that I'm paranoid. Now that you point it out, I agree, it won't drop into the motor and worst case is it drops down onto the gear. Pretty easy to fix if it did for some reason.

Thanks again.

Those plastic ones always crack. I have these with a shim and roll pin for sale. You have to drill a 1/8 hole that lines up with the existing hole then drill through to the other side. They are never straight across. I personally don't like the "locking collars" next to the distributor bottom since they do block some of the oil going to the bushings, work great on the bottom though.

Well when "Mr. Distributor" says they always crack, I don't feel so stupid for cracking ours. :)

Could you send me a message with a little better pic and price please?

They are almost all like that. Get a box in there is usually a few halves in the bottom, sometimes the core has nothing at all and you can tell it was running for a while.

Here you go and also threw on of the lock style so you can see the difference in size.
