I'm looking to reduce my total advance and have welded some filler into the advance slots. Now I don't remember how much to add to limit the advance. I used to know that .010 added to the slots was about how many degrees. Now I don't remember. Can anyone help me out with this so I don't have to do the trial and error fit quite so many times?

Thanks!

The way i did it was to do a ratio between the length vs degrees of the original plate and solved for the length they needed to be to have the amount of advance I wanted.

A 15R plate=30 degrees of crank advance. I wanted a "10R" plate to have only 20 degrees of mechanical advance.

so the formula goes as follows (original slot length)/(original advance)=(new slot length)/(new advance)

solve for new slot length:

new slot length=(original advance/new advance)*original slot length.

Worked perfectly for me.

Thanks Goldduster. So my plate is an L13 and the slot is .450. If I want to wind up with 10 degrees my new slot should be .346?

Yep...you got it. You must be running a SL6 since I've been dealing with small blocks and have never seen an "L" marked plate.
