Is there a seal or dust gasket of some kind that goes in the center spindle hole? The one plate shown is 69 and older style, and the other is a 70. The 69 plate has a groove for what appears to be for a dust seal of some sort? The 70 has a flange welded on the front over the hole. Seen a few of the 69 /older style with what looks like a cork gasket in the groove. What is the 'flange" for on the 70 Abody plate? My Mopar manual doesn't show a gasket or seal in this area. So I'm curious as to what the groove and flange are there for. I know there is a foam gasket that can be bought to go between the spindle face and the back of the plate, but that's all I've seen. Is a seal necessary? Any ideas?

Spindle seal is in the hub... '69 and '70 versions. Drum or disc. Both cases the "foam" dust seal goes between knuckle and backing plate.

Yes I believe there are seals. I made a pr for mine out of sill gasket foam.
I kinda figured there must be something used in there or why else is the groove there and the flange. I may see if I have some thick cork I can fit in there and cut the center to just slide over the spindle and seal it that way. I've looked everywhere for a number and description online and come up empty. Nothing in the repair manuals either. Time for do it yourself I guess. Thanks for your input.

Nothing goes in there, it's just a protection shroud to keep dirt/dust from flying up into the spindle seal.

You may be right, just seems like something should go into that round grooved area behind the shroud. But I guess the shroud would keep most of the debree out of the seal. Just curious.

I've never seen anything but the White dust foam in the back. If you put anything in that recess it will interfere with the spindle seal that's mounted in the hub.

Note how it says Brake Support to Steering Knuckle. That's the white foam that gets bolted between the two as I show above.
