Wheel w/o tire (preferred)The easiest way to measure backspace is to lay the wheel face down onto the ground so the backside of the wheel is facing up. Take a straight edge and lay it diagonally across the inboard flange of the wheel. Take a tape measure and measure the distance from where the straight edge contacts the inboard flange to the hub mounting pad of the wheel. This measurement is backspace. The above photo shows three wheels with 2",3", & 4" backspace

basically it is the measurement from where your wheel meets the brake drum to the edge of the rim going towards the springs.

Not a dumb question.

You can figure your own out with a straight edge and a tape measure like the diagram avoe shows.

Just lay the straight edge, like a level across the back of the tireless rim if possible and measure how deep the ruler goes to the bottom flat spot.

Thanks for the info. Looking to install 205/75/15 front and 275/60/15 rear on a 1974 Duster. Thanks again.

thats the size of tires I run on my car. You will need to bump the rear up a little or each time you hit a small curb the tire will touch the fender.
