I'm reconditioning a center console and would like to know what others have done to safely remove the old carpet adhesive. Thanks! Dave

Do a search here. In the last 2-3 months someone just went thru the same thing

Tx Dart. I did a search earlier but my search terms “console glue remove” didn’t turn up any useful results, and so my request for info to FABO nation. I’ll try other search terms, tx.

Here's what I use .

50 -50 mix of Varsol and Acetone.

Soak a rag in it and rub over the old glue.

1. Wear rubber gloves!

2. Do not let the cleaner get on upper console finished areas.

3. Wash the cleaned areas with hot soap and water .

sand it - it's been there for 50 years and is rock hard. Never use adhesive again! 4spdragtop put me on to using industrial grade Velcro, which I found at ACE hardware. When you want it out of the way to tighten or adjust linkage or deal with electrical stuff in the console just zip it off and press it back on when done. no muss, no fuss. It looks great and never shifts around even when you drive the car a lot. Even for installation you can get the carpet just right on a bench, pull it off to put the console in and then just press it in place when you are done.
