Dustless blasting: whole car paint removal in 1 hour

-
If you watched the video at the end after blasting they treat the whole car with a coating of some sort prob to inhibit rust be my guess..looks like a good way to go but a thousand dollars to blast a car seems a bit much..I'm all for making money but just think how much more you could make by doing a couple a day for say 500 bucs,be more likely to attract more customers as it would be more affordable, and you could always lay a tarp underneath to catch residue and bag it so as to no bitchin about the runoff and enviromental issues..

Wow that is FAST. I WANT one.
He's doing some kind of rust inhibitor rinse at the end.

That blasted real fast.
What is impressive that the windows are not damaged from the media.

I hate sand blasting, it ranks in my not do do list with putting shingles on a roof, and putting up hay.

Agreed. Hate doing it. Love the results though.

I actually researched this and other units. I asked questions in the garage forum but didn't get any response. I spoke with the technical department and asked several questions. I got quotes since I was seriously considering purchasing a unit. The water does cool the metal so, supposedly no warping. The rust inhibitor is called Holdtight and they use glass beads or similar type media. The car can be dried with a leaf blower and the metal has to be in primer within 48 hours or something like that. I was very close to ordering one for my use and maybe some friends to pay for the unit. I think they are awesome and it would be a cool but, expensive tool.

Impressive on 50 year old lacquer............I would like to see it used on a car with multiple layers of paint, or maybe at least a single stage urethane.

I use paint stripper and a pressure washer. after I'm finished I dry it off as best as I can and then stick a big shop fan in front of it the rest of the day. I've never had any problems with corrosion (knock on wood). as long as you dry it off in a timely manner I don't see a problem with water. the problem I have is everyone wants to touch it and slide their hands all over it afterwards. seems they're something about bare metal that attracts every idiot you know

a thousand bucks is cheap! in north ga it was gonna cost me 1800 to get a dart blasted and it was just a shell (no masking). I thought that was ridiculous and decided to strip it myself. after countless hours, sandpaper($$$), paint stripper($$$), blasting unit($$$), and media($$$) that 1800 bucks sounds like a steal!

I own Ugly Blaster Mobile Dustless Blasting in Georgia. I'll tell you what I know about this system.
I blast with crushed glass or sugar sand. We mix it with a rust inhibitor before we blast, which gives you 72 hours before you have to prime. It is very effective for removing paint. You do have to angle the nozzle to keep from over stressing the panels. It helps to have someone around who has done it a few times. Part of our clean up is we blow the sand out of the car with a leaf blower.

As far as pricing goes dustless blaster has them between $50K-$60K to buy a rig ready to go.

I'm buying that machine and quitting my current job ......I see a bright future...wonder what other uses and about later model cars. Or parts stripping I'm gonna be rich!!!

Theres a water blastvsetup like this to strip aircraft. It uses baking soda as the blast medium. Its called armex by arm and hammer.

As an alternative to this system, I bought a set up from Northern Tool that hooks up to your pressure washer. I was rebuilding my 6x10 trailer that had several coats of old paint. It works pretty well with the only draw backs being you get blasted with sand that will find it's way into places you never knew you had. And you go thru a lot of media I went thru 500lbs in a hour and half. But the end results were good. Here is a link to it.

well, not much hay this year!

shoot, speak for yourself, I've had more hay this year than ever before. We got over 1900 bales off of 9 acres in one cutting, normally we don't get that in 3 cuttings.

I got quoted over the phone to have this done. May dart shell and a 52 Ford F-100 Cab. I was quoted at $2000 and 3-4 hours.

We hired a guy to bring his dustless blaster to the shop. They did the bottom of my GTS and a rotisserie resto hemi Cuda. It does a great job, removed all the old undercoating from my car. Now here's the downside. It makes a big mess. We spent several days shoveling up media and remenents of rust, undercoating etc. We had a street sweeper come by and finish up. That stuff went everywhere. If you have it done go to the vendors place. Let them deal with the cleanup.

We had rain for 2 months and could never get it cut, it went to seed. then we had no rain for 45 days and it didn't grow. My corn never came in. I bought alfalfa hay from a farmer in Ohio to get me through the winter.

Yeah, we got lucky, got it cut the 1st time right before the wet summer, caught about 10 days with out rain at the end of july and managed to get it all in, all 32 acres of it, but that 1 field was insanely thick. We've got so much hay, we're gonna sell a bunch of it.

If its green bring it to Pittsburgh!
